The potential for self-deception

This fits nicely to my previous post: The American Naturalist just published the Sewall Wright Award Address by William R. Rice entitled “The Evolution of an Enigmatic Human Trait: False Beliefs due to Pseudo-Solution Traps”, which addresses the question of “why it is so common for people to hold strong beliefs despite insufficient evidence to justify them”.
